Satellite Receivers
An analog or a digital receiver - a digibox - for receiving satellite transmissions. Connects to the television set (or to a stereo system or VCR, if required). Converts the satellite signal to a single channel - the one that the viewer chooses to view. Usually contains a decoder function to receive encrypted television transmissions.
Smart Card Personalized credit card for use in satellite receivers with integrated decoders, for authorization of subscribed Pay TV channels.
SMATV Satellite delivered Master Antenna Television system. A communal distribution system for satellite and terrestrial TV and radios signals, usually installed in a block of flats for shared used.

Streaming A technique for transferring data such that it can be processed as a steady and continuous stream. Streaming technologies are becoming increasingly important with the growth of the Internet because most users do not have fast enough access to download large multimedia files quickly. With streaming, the client browser or plug-in can start displaying the data before the entire file has been transmitted.
Subcarrier One or more signals, mainly audio, carried beside the main signal e.g. television on a transponder or cable channel.
