Latvia’s state television channel LTV7 has started broadcasting via the Sirius satellite. With the launch of LTV7 on Sirius, all of Latvia’s national television channels can now be viewed across the country.
Satellite operator SES SIRIUS and Latvia’s state television network LTV have signed a satellite broadcasting agreement for LTV7. The deal completes the lineup of all Baltic national television channels available on Sirius. LTV will join popular television channels including TV3, TV5, LNT, TV6, TV1000 as part of the Viasat package.
LTV7 broadcasts a mix of news, sports and entertainment. The channel continues to be available in analog format over the country’s terrestrial network, but is now also available via Sirius as a digital satellite channel. This enables Latvians who were previously unable to pick up LTV7 to watch it via satellite – no matter where in the country they live. The signal is encrypted using Video guard, and is available as part of the Viasat package. Baltic viewers now have access to some 50 television channels via satellite.
LTV7 director Arnis Kupriss had this to say about the deal:”LTV7 is a public service channel, and we’re pleased to say we are now truly accessible to all of Latvia. What’s more, we’re broadcasting in digital format – delivering the very best quality to our viewers.”
General manager of LTV Janis Holshtein said: “We are pleased that both national television stations are available via satellite. I think that our viewers will be happy for an opportunity to watch their favorite sport events, movies, serials and our broadcasts in good quality across all territory of Latvia.
SES SIRIUS Pan-European and Baltic regional manager Daniel Cop added: “In all Baltic countries, satellite broadcasting has become very popular because of the large number of channels it offers. Sirius is the region’s main satellite, because we have all the biggest and most popular commercial and public service channels. Satellite digital television also offers new opportunities and services, such as interactive services and HDTV (High Definition Television), the new standard for high-quality television.”
