World famous music TV channel MTV starts local broadcasts across the Baltic countries via Sirius satellite

4 Sep, 2006

The world famous music TV channel MTV has chosen the Sirius satellite for its local broadcasts to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. The channel will be launched on September 4th. A majority of all cable TV operators in the Baltic countries have their antennas directed to Sirius at 5 degrees East, so the whole region will be covered as soon as MTV starts their broadcasts.

“We chose Sirius because they fulfil our requirement for a high quality, secure and powerful satellite signal, but most important was that Sirius is the primary satellite in the Baltic countries. It is easy for the cable operators to receive the signal since they already have their antennas pointed to Sirius”, says Marius Veselis, General Manager, “MTV Networks Baltic”.

Dmitry Grigoryev, Sales Manager at Sirius Latvia, comments the agreement:
“We are indeed pleased to have MTV local Baltic channels on board Sirius. I think it is great news for all young people who like to watch music videos that they will be able to watch this popular channel in their own local languages – just in the same manner as MTV viewers in the Scandinavian countries do.”

MTV Sweden, MTV Norway, MTV Denmark and MTV Finland are already broadcasted via Sirius. Throughout the world there are 44 MTV channels broadcasting in 164 countries.

MTV Lithuania, MTV Latvia and MTV Estonia will be uplinked to the Sirius satellite from Sirius Latvia teleport in Riga. The satellite signal is then transmitted to cable operators, IPTV’s and terrestrial operators across the Baltic countries.
