SES Sirius clinches major contract for occasional satellite capacity
12 Sep, 2006
The satellite company SES Sirius has recently secured its largest contract so far in the Nordic region regarding satellite capacity for occasional use. SES Sirius has entered into the agreement with Twentyfourseven Mobile Links AB, a company whose operations include transmissions for the TV and media company Kanal 75 from trotting tracks throughout Sweden.
SES Sirius has secured its largest contract so far in the Nordic region concerning satellite capacity for occasional use. The contract is with Twentyfourseven Mobile Links AB. The operations of Twentyfourseven Mobile Links AB include occasional transmissions of audio and video from sporting events such as the World Championship in Athletics and the Football World Cup. The company also transmits news reports and covers small and major stories and events in Sweden and abroad.
Carina Troedsson, the acting CEO of Twentyfourseven Holding AB, comments on the agreement with SES Sirius:
“SES Sirius has the capacity and coverage throughout Europe that we need. This is important, because our clients, such as programme companies in Sweden and abroad, receive our transmissions themselves to a large extent. SES Sirius’s 24-hour online booking service is also a major advantage. It means that we can book ourselves and see how and when we can utilise free capacity on the satellite. We can choose from different bandwidths and time slots to suit our assignments.”
She adds, “Programme companies are making increasing numbers of live broadcasts outside their studios. Today viewers take it for granted that reporting teams are always onsite and broadcast live. We are investing in being part of this development and have secured plenty of satellite capacity through our new agreement with SES Sirius.”
Rapid capacity growth
Jonas Keijser, regional manager at SES Sirius for the Nordic countries, is positive to the development.
“We are seeing an increase in occasional satellite connections at Sirius. In terms of technology, we have one of the leading satellite systems, thanks to the fact that it’s simple to link to our satellite and that the connection doesn’t require a lot of power. We offer competitive prices and will gain a major capacity boost with the new Sirius 4 in 2007.”
Twentyfourseven AB, which used to be purely a production equipment rental company, has grown robustly during the past year. Through the acquisition of Teracom Mobile Links AB and a rental agreement with the Swedish Film Institute for premises and studios, Twentyfourseven AB has expanded its area of operation with production and transmissions via satellite within the business.
