24 Oct, 2006

Anyone with a satellite dish aimed at Sirius is now able to receive a new, free TV channel designed for all football and hockey fans. The channel is already available on the web as part of SvenskaFans.com, Sweden's biggest sports community. FANTV aims to get really close to the players and already has 20 reporters with cameras out in the arenas to do in-depth interviews with them.

A new free-to-air TV channel via Sirius is launched, with football television created by real fans. The channel will feature interviews, pre-match discussions and magazine programmes on Swedish football and hockey.

Cost-effective broadcasts

Michael Fahlstedt, CEO of FANTV, comments on the agreement with Sirius:

“We have been very thorough in our planning prior to the launch of the channel and have had a lot of help from Sirius in finding the most cost-effective way to broadcast our channel. Thanks to them, we've come a long way.” He continues:

“We wanted to have the best coverage in Sweden mainly, but also be able to reach the rest of the Nordic region. It seemed to us that we could reach the largest number of households in our target group by using Sirius.” Fahlstedt concludes:

“Another factor that contributed to us choosing Sirius is the satellite's strong signal, which makes it simple for every football fan to get a good reception, even with a small dish.”

Jonas Keijser, Nordic Regional Manager at Sirius, says:

“We're glad we were able to help FANTV find a cost-effective way to get started on its TV channel. It's possible to reach an unlimited number of recipients by satellite without increasing costs.”

Commenting on the launch of the channel Anders Nettelbladt, Group Manager of SvenskaFans and FANTV, says:

“The aim of the channel is to create passionate and innovative sports television, keeping close to the clubs. FANTV aims to contribute to increasing the already strong interest in football and ice hockey all year round.” He concludes:

“We've found a number of new programme formats that we first tested on the web and are now transferring to TV. Our focus is on filling the void where high-quality talk shows about football and hockey are concerned. Our members want the low-down on their team and we want to give it to them on the TV screen, as well as on SvenskaFans.com.”
