1982-83

  Creation of the Nordic Satellite Company (NSAB) following an agreement between the Swedish and Norwegian governments on TELE-X telecommunication satellite cooperation. Swedish government owns 85%, Norwegian government 15%

1989

  Swedish and Norwegian governments agree to "take separate routes" and to dissolve the TELE-X cooperation. NSAB becomes 100% owned by the Swedish government.
April TELE-X launched from Kourou in French Guiana.
June Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) entrusted with the operation of the TELE-X system.

1990

August TV4 starts broadcasting via TELE-X

1993

August SSC takes over all the shares in NSAB. SSC and Teracom enter into a preliminary agreement regarding joint ownership of NSAB.
Autumn NSAB purchases Marco Polo 1 satellite.

1994

February Teracom becomes 50% owner of NSAB. Marco Polo 1, now SIRIUS 1, operated by NSAB at 5°E.
June General Electric signs an agreement with NSAB for purchase of 16 transponders on SIRIUS 2.
July NSAB enters into agreements for the purchase and launch of SIRIUS 2.
August SIRIUS 1 fully booked

1996

February Tele Danmark acquires 25% of the shares and votes of NSAB.

1997

November SIRIUS 2 successfully launched from Kourou in French Guiana. NSAB enters into agreements for the purchase and launch of SIRIUS 3

1998

October SIRIUS 3 successfully launched from Kourou in French Guiana.
November SES ASTRA leases SIRIUS 3’s total transponder capacity until Oct 99.
Autumn NSAB launches new Internet, Push, and Streaming services.
December SIRIUS 3 back in orbital position 5° East.

2000

January NSAB establishes a local office in Kiev, Ukraine.
Spring TV channels on SIRIUS 1 moved to SIRIUS 3.
  SIRIUS 1 is moved to orbital position 13° West and renamed SIRIUS W. MTG/Viasat starts broadcasting TV channels in digital format on SIRIUS.
October SES ASTRA and Swedish Space Corporation new 50-50 owners of NSAB

2001

March SES ASTRA announces formation of SES GLOBAL, acquiring GE American Communications

2002

  Riga Teleport and NSAB subsidiary SIA SIRIUS Satellite Systems Latvija established in Riga, Latvia.

2003

April First service in Nordic countries to start providing satellite capacity to trains - Wireless Onboard Internet solution.
   
December SES GLOBAL aqcuires 75% of NSAB, remaining 25% owned by SSC

2004

April Uplink station in Vilnius, Lithuania established.
October First HDTV (High Definition TV) channel in the Nordic countries starts transmissions on SIRIUS

2005

January New satellite, SIRIUS 4, ordered from Lockheed Martin.
January New CEO, Per Norman, employed.
June Office in Bucharest established.
December
NSAB changes name to SES SIRIUS AB and moves to new premises

New SIRIUS logo

SIRIUS 4 successfully launched.

All tv channels from SIRIUS 2 and 3 are successfully transferred to SIRIUS 4.

SES increases the ownership of SES SIRIUS to 90%. SSC owns the remaining 10%.
